
In a prominent humanitarian step, Dr. Fawzi Al-Hammouri, Executive Chairman of the Gaza Health Initiative and the General Manager of the Specialty Hospital, announced the launch of the “Martyr Dr. Adnan Al-Bursh Scholarship” during the Gaza Beat of the Heart Conference, which was held during the period 23 - 24 January 2025, under the patronage of His Royal Highness Prince El Hassan bin Talal, organized by the Jordanian Doctors Association. This announcement comes within the framework of supporting Palestinian doctors and enhancing their professional capabilities to face the great challenges faced by the health sector in Gaza.
In his opening speech, Dr. Al-Hammouri expressed his happiness for this distinguished event, praising Prince Al-Hassan bin Talal's patronage of the event, which reflects the great humanitarian concern. “This conference organized by the Jordanian Doctors' Association reflects a clear message of hope and a real commitment to rebuilding the health sector in Gaza, especially in light of the great sacrifices made by Palestinian doctors who were at the forefront of the confrontation during the recent Israeli aggression,” said Al-Hammouri. He added: “We lost more than 1,000 martyrs of health workers in 470 days of the aggression, and it became crucial for us to support the training of doctors to qualify new generations to meet the needs of the health sector.”
Al-Hammouri explained the details of the scholarship; the first phase will include providing 5 full grants to doctors from Gaza, where they will be trained at the Specialty Hospital in Jordan in the specialties; surgery, internal medicine, gynecology and pediatrics. In addition to the specialty of orthopedics, in which the martyr Dr. Adnan Al-Bursh, who had spent two years in advanced training in arthroscopy and joint transplantation in Jordanian hospitals. Moreover, the value of these five grants is a quarter million dollars over 5 years.
Al-Hammouri emphasized that this initiative will expand through cooperation with teaching hospitals in Jordan and a number of other countries with the aim of improving the health situation in Gaza and providing opportunities for Palestinian medical workers to obtain advanced academic training that contributes to raising the level of health services in the Gaza Strip.
On the Gaza Health Initiative, Dr. Al-Hammouri expressed his pride in the achievements of the initiative through its partners, explaining that the Gaza Health Initiative was launched from the Amman the capital of Jordan, where it organized its first conference in February 2024 under The Royal Patronage of His Majesty King Abdullah II, in partnership between the Jordanian Medical Association and the National Arab American Medical Association. The initiative has expanded to become one of the most prominent humanitarian and health initiatives globally, with more than 60 humanitarian and health organizations from more than 30 countries. Through this international network, the initiative has implemented dozens of projects in support of the health, education and humanitarian sectors in Gaza, reflecting an ongoing commitment to improving health and life conditions in Gaza.
At the end of his speech, Al-Hammouri acknowledged the international participation at the conference reflecting the positive and effective role in providing medical support to the people of Gaza according to their needs, praising the humanitarian efforts made by Jordanian and international medical missions that worked around the clock to alleviate the suffering of the Palestinian people, which results in positive change in the Gaza Strip through health and educational projects in parallel, stressing that the initiative will continue to achieve its goals within the ongoing international solidarity for the steadfastness of the Palestinian people.
